Formal Presentation

Global Warming is the increase in the average temperature of earth’s surface air and oceans. It is the heating of earth due to trapping of heat from sun in the earth’s atmosphere which in turn causes the climate to change. I’ll discuss the causes, the consequences and I’ll give some solutions to the climate changing.
The main cause of Global Warming is increasing in the Greenhouse gases which are caused by Natural and Man-made causes. Natural causes include volcanic eruption and solar radiation. There are many consequences that are caused by this issue. For example, the level of the water increases due the increasing of temperature which melts the ice caps. Also, the extinction of some species, because of climate changing which eliminates their habitat is another consequence.
The problem of global warming can be curbed only when collective steps are taken by the people. One of those steps is be aware of the consequences of global warming. Another thing is balancing the chopping of the trees and replanting. Also, in the industrial site we have to build a garden around it so it refreshes the air which is full with carbon dioxide.

                                                2- Mohamed Saeed     H00216614
Venue: Class W113
Date: 2011/6/26
Starting time: 4:15
End time: 4:35

Saeed and Mohamed chose a really good subject for their presentation. The topic was about the Social Networking websites. Saeed started by explaining the social networking briefly. Then he told us about their outline; what he will say and his partner. Mohamed did use the eye contact and the body language and also Saeed did but he was good in talking with the audience. They stood at the right side of the screen but alternately while the other sat in front of the computer. Mohamed used some note cards to remember the ideas that he prepared for the presentation but he read some of the notes. Mohamed and Saeed spoke in a really loud and clear tone and they were organized and confident.

The power point slides were good enough to express their ideas. The background of the slides wasn’t full with pictures and images so it was simple. There were not too many words in the presentation and that made it professional in my point of view. There wasn’t any kind of videos or animated images. There was a transition effect in switching from one slide to another.

Finally, I believe that the presentation was good in expressing the idea of those websites. I think that I got better knowledge about the social websites than before. However, I still don’t agree that people under 18 years old should use it because they aren’t aware of how dangerous those websites will be if you misuse them.

Reflection on the meeting

As I was the chair I started the discussion by saying good afternoon. I introduced the minutes taker who was Ahmed Abdulla and also the participant who was Ahmed Hamdan. We discussed the habit which was one of the worst habits which is smoking and its effects in the body and the mind and the society which was the major point of our discussion. There were not many arguments in the meeting and we all agreed on the recommendations that we said. Then we tried to think how we can implement our solutions in the real life and make the people live in a healthy environment.

Meeting re. Smoking effects

Date of meeting:   21/06/2011
Time of meeting 3:06 pm last for 1 hr

Venue
ADMC Room W106

Group members:
Chair:  Mohamed Al-Ameri
Minutes taker: Ahmed Al-Ali
Participant:  Ahmed Al-Katheeri

Agenda:

1          The effect of smoking physically.
2          The effect of smoking psychologically.
3          The effect of smoking on society.
4          What is the reason of smoking (why people smoke).
5          Recommendations (How we stop this madness).
6          Action to be made (How to apply the recommendations).

Objectives:

This meeting is to look at the common problem in our life as the group decided to talk about smoking. We will discuss about how the smoking affects the smoker physically, psychologically and the effects on society. However, after looking to all problems caused by smoking we will look at some solutions to this bad habit; also how to apply it on the society where we will discuss about easy way to stop smoking to reduce the smoking.

Minutes:

The discussion started with the body problems which are affected by smoking. One of those effects was cancer. The smoking habit puts the smoker at 90% of risk to one of the cancers for the smoker. Another thing about the body effects was mentioned by Ahmed Hamdan which was the skin cancer. Also the chair Mohamed talked about the fatal diseases which are mainly the thrombosis whether coronary or cerebral.

Then we transferred to look at the effects on the mind of the smokers. We started our discussion by a small story mentioned by Mohamed about a person who tried to stop smoking and he resisted for 12 hours then he became crazy. After that Ahmed said that they think that they can’t do any work properly without smoking and we all agreed with his point of view.

Smoking has many effects as we mentioned above but this time we will discuss the effect of smokers on the society. The first point we discussed is the money problem where some smokers spend all the money on cigarettes and his family don’t have food to eat or water to drink. Also, that money can help poor people where they are really in need to survive. The second point we illustrate is that the smoker spits after smoking which is an unpleasant habit to the children which they will copy and spit all over the place. Finally the participant gave a very good point about the problem when he said that some of the scientists discover that the smoker when he discard the smoke it has a very bad effect on the surrounding area or the people around them.

There are some reasons why the people want to smoke. First it lets them feel that they are cool or they feel that they are men. Also the free time when they don’t have anything to do they may think about smoking. People act like their favorite famous player, singer, or actors and they like to copy his action without thinking
about the consequences, especially if he smokes they will smoke.

After all of the reasons we have to put some solutions and we have found many. First of all make a special area for smokers to smoke to not bother the others. Another recommendation is give some lectures regularly for the teenagers to know the bad effects about the smoking. One final recommendation was to make a special day for smokers to help them stop smoking and it should be a global event.

After we discussed about the recommendations we talked about how we can apply them. The first idea was Ahmed Al Katheeri who said that we have to build a special company for the smokers by taking charge of advertisements and helping smokers without charge; also fine the people who smoke in open areas where it is not allowed to smoke. Try to apply taxes on cigarette boxes; also make it above 18 or 21 years old to be able to buy it. Mohamed says that we must stop the cigarette companies from advertising on the TV but Ahmed Al Ali disagreed because we can’t stop the companies to advertise their item; they have the right but what we can do is ensure they must show that it is dangerous to smoke.
